MTN Business understands that government plays a fundamental role in ensuring that citizens have access to information.

Since the first cellphone connected to a cellular network in 1973, cellular technologies have grown in leaps and bounds, becoming the communication medium of choice for many diverse technologies and solutions. MTN launched its network in 1994, 20 years after the cellular call was made, and in the 15 odd years it has been operating, it has had a number of firsts, starting with the first to launch GPRS and Edge technologies as mobile data enablers.

MTN Business has also evolved with the times and its learning from multinational blue-chip solution partnerships has made its transition into the government space a natural progression of its business model.

Over the last four years, MTN Business has developed and partnered to enable solutions such as connectivity for ATMs, condition monitoring of trains on national railway lines, point of sale connectivity, field force enablement, secure corporate connectivity and tracking solutions, to name a few. Most of these solutions have been developed in MTN’s uniquely South African environment. MTN Business understands that South Africa’s socio economic and regulatory environment requires a unique way of looking at delivering solutions.

eg9mtn2 MTN Business can offer many solutions, ranging from voice calls to complex data solutions like Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks, as well as physical fibre connectivity. These are just technologies – the company’s true strength lies in its ability to deliver groundbreaking solutions in conjunction with both customers and business partners.

MTN recently acquired the ISP business of Verizon South Africa, in addition to the in-house MTN Network Solutions. The new ISP, MTN Business Solutions, will allow for an integrated telco solution provision for its customers.

Africa and beyond

Its strength in Africa has made MTN one of the largest operators in the world. Communication links are the lifeline of organisations throughout Africa, with technology both a strategic and operational necessity, helping to develop and support growth on the continent. Fundamental to this is the implementation of technologies that serve to enhance efficiency so as to drive return on investment as well as the international competitiveness for Africa.

eg9mtn3 In line with this, MTN Business is committed to Africa’s growth and its footprint in Africa is a measure of the company, especially as it is accurately aligned with each country’s key communication priorities. As a result, MTN Business understands that government plays a fundamental role in ensuring that citizens have access to information.

Government has a real opportunity through e-service provisioning, and MTN Business is uniquely positioned to provide the specific services the public sector needs. By implementing a secured solution, it is not only able to ensure that government and municipalities are ready to provide e-citizen services, but that they are able to host their e-applications in secure data centres. This ensures business continuity and enables the continuation of all critical processes through events that threaten continuous business operations.

Given the extensive solution definition experience in the transport, security, healthcare, finance and other key sectors of the economy, MTN Business is well positioned to work with the government towards value-enhancing sales solutions.
